PET Plastic Bottle Debaler Machine

This video of our debaler machine was taken inside our customer’s plastic recycling plant in Italy. We manufactured all of the machinery in this plant as part of our turnkey solution for PET bottle recycling. The debaler machine is the first in a line of a series of plastic recycling machines. As seen in the video, the debaler does an excellent job of breaking full bales of PET bottles so the individual bottles can be processed by other pieces of equipment.

A debaler typically feeds directly into a trommel or label-removal stage, which separates loose labels and fine contaminants before the bottles move on to washing.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does a PET bottle debaler machine do?

The debaler is the first machine in a PET recycling line: it breaks full, tightly compressed bales of PET bottles back into individual loose bottles. Without this step, downstream equipment — sorters, label removers, granulators, and washers — cannot process the material, since it arrives as solid bales.

Why is debaling necessary in PET bottle recycling?

Bottles arrive at recycling plants compressed into dense bales for transport and storage. Manually breaking these bales is slow and labor-intensive, and feeding whole bales into the line jams equipment. The debaler automates bale opening, delivering a steady stream of single bottles that keeps the rest of the line running at capacity.

What happens to the bottles after debaling?

Once freed, individual bottles travel by conveyor into the next stages of the line — typically a trommel or label-removal unit that separates loose labels and fines, followed by sorting, granulation, hot washing, rinsing, and drying. The debaler is the starting point of that full PET bottle recycling process.

What bale sizes can the debaler handle?

The machine is designed for the standard compressed bales used in the PET bottle recycling trade. Because bale dimensions and strapping vary between suppliers and regions, share your typical bale size and material mix during quotation so the infeed can be confirmed or customized for your supply.

Is this machine part of a turnkey solution?

Yes — the video was taken inside a customer’s plastic recycling plant in Italy, where ASG manufactured all of the machinery in the plant as a complete turnkey solution for PET bottle recycling. Supplying the debaler together with the full downstream line guarantees every stage is sized and sequenced to work together.

What maintenance does a debaler require?

Debalers are mechanically simple machines: inspect the bale-opening teeth or blades for wear, check conveyors and drives for loose fasteners or abnormal vibration, and keep spare wear parts in stock. Regular inspection keeps the first machine in the line — and therefore the whole line — running without interruption.
