Eddy Current Separator – Boost PET Recycling Efficiency

Hi, Let me introduce you to our Eddy Current Separator—a powerhouse for recycling.

PET Bottles & Aluminum Cans Separation

Here’s the first example: a mix of PET bottles and aluminum cans. Watch as the aluminum cans are repelled and directed into one collection bin, while the PET bottles continue smoothly into a separate bin. This ensures everything is perfectly sorted and ready for the next step in recycling.

PET Flakes & Embedded Metals

Next up, we’re working with PET flakes that have small pieces of metal mixed in. No problem! Using advanced magnetic tech, it detects and repels even tiny metal fragments, leaving you with clean, high-quality PET flakes.

How does it do all this? At its core is a super-fast spinning magnetic rotor. It creates eddy currents that repel metals, separating them efficiently from the rest of the material stream.

Whether it’s PET bottles flakes, aluminum cans, or other materials, the Eddy Current Separator is the perfect tool to boost your recycling game. Cleaner outputs, higher value, less hassle.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does an eddy current separator work?

At its core is a super-fast spinning magnetic rotor. As non-ferrous metals such as aluminum pass over the rotor, the changing magnetic field induces eddy currents in the metal, which create a repelling force that ejects the metal pieces from the material stream. Non-metallic material such as PET bottles or flakes continues on its normal trajectory into a separate collection bin.

What materials can it separate?

The separator handles two typical jobs in PET recycling: sorting whole aluminum cans out of a mixed PET bottle stream, and pulling tiny embedded metal fragments out of PET flakes. Because it targets non-ferrous metals, it complements magnetic separators that remove ferrous metals — together they deliver the metal-free feedstock that washing lines and extruders require.

Where does the eddy current separator fit in a PET recycling line?

It is typically installed where metals need to be removed before sensitive downstream equipment — for example, after sorting or granulation and before the washing stages. Removing aluminum and metal fragments early protects granulator blades, washer screens, and extruder screws from damage and keeps final flake purity high.

What is the difference between an eddy current separator and a magnetic separator?

A standard magnetic separator attracts ferrous metals like iron and steel, while an eddy current separator repels non-ferrous metals like aluminum, copper, and brass that magnets cannot catch. Most complete recycling lines use both in sequence for full metal removal.

What throughput can the separator handle?

Throughput depends on the model — mainly rotor width, belt speed, and how the material is presented to the rotor. A thin, single-layer feed gives the cleanest separation. Share your material type and target capacity and our engineers will recommend the right width and configuration for your line.

What maintenance does the separator require?

Maintenance is relatively light: periodic inspection of the conveyor belt, the magnetic rotor bearings, and the splitter position that divides the separated streams. Keeping the belt tracking correctly and the feed layer even ensures consistent separation performance over time.
