Continuous Cycle PET Bottle Hot Washing System

Shown in this video is our hot washer system for PET bottle recycling currently being commissioned in Indonesia. This latest model offers a different approach compared to traditionally designed hot washer systems. Our latest model is designed to run continuously with added power to the rotor within to generate more friction resulting in cleaner, higher quality finished products.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is this continuous-cycle model different from traditional hot washers?

Traditional hot washers often run in batches or with gentler agitation. This latest model is designed to run continuously, with added power to the rotor generating more friction between flakes. The extra mechanical scrubbing — combined with the hot wash bath — lifts stubborn contaminants faster, producing cleaner, higher-quality finished flakes without slowing the line.

What contaminants does the hot washer remove?

The hot wash stage targets what mechanical separation cannot: label adhesives and hot-melt glue, oils and greases, and beverage or food residues. Heat plus detergent (typically caustic-based) dissolves these contaminants while the powered rotor’s friction scrubs flake surfaces. Labels themselves should be removed upstream by a label remover; the hot washer finishes the job on what they leave behind.

Where does the hot washer sit in a PET recycling line?

It typically follows crushing and pre-washing and comes before friction washing, rinsing, sink-float separation, and drying. Because this model runs continuously, it integrates smoothly into an automated line without becoming a bottleneck. Placing the hot stage mid-line ensures flakes entering the dryer are already chemically clean, which raises final flake value.

What water temperature and chemicals are used?

Hot washers typically operate with near-boiling water around 90–100°C combined with caustic soda and detergent, which together dissolve adhesives and saponify oils. Concentration, pH, and temperature are monitored and maintained for consistent results. After the hot stage, flakes pass through friction washing and clean-water rinsing so no chemical residue remains in the finished product.

What maintenance does the continuous hot washer require?

Key tasks include inspecting the powered rotor and its friction surfaces for wear, descaling heating elements and the wash chamber, checking seals and bearings, and monitoring chemical dosing and water quality. Because the rotor runs with added power, drive components deserve regular attention. A scheduled preventive maintenance routine keeps cleaning performance consistent and avoids unplanned downtime.

How is the hot washer sized to my line capacity?

The washer is matched to your line’s hourly throughput so it never starves or overloads downstream equipment — chamber volume, rotor power, and heating capacity scale with tonnage. Because this model runs continuously rather than in batches, sizing is straightforward: tell us your target kg/h and flake contamination level, and the system is configured for steady, full-rate operation.
